Outage Guidelines

Steps to take during an outage.

Check your breaker.

Verify if the outage is due to a tripped breaker. This is often the first and simplest step to diagnose the issue.

Report the outage.

If the outage isn’t due to your breaker, report it to EQUS immediately to ensure prompt action and resolution.

Power down.

Turn off all electrical equipment and most lights to prevent circuit overload when power returns. Leave one light on inside and one outside to indicate when power is restored.

Post-restoration wait.

After power is restored, wait for 10-15 minutes before turning all your electrical equipment back on. This helps stabilize the system and prevents overloading.

Prepare emergency supplies.

Keep essential emergency supplies handy, such as flashlights, a battery-operated radio, and water, to stay safe during an outage. Ensure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have working batteries.

To maintain the temperature, avoid opening your freezer or fridge unless necessary. This can keep your food safe for longer. Don’t use outdoor cooking or heating appliances indoors.
