Every year on July 10, utilities across North America celebrate the dedicated people who keep our communities powered: lineworkers.
At EQUS, they’re more than employees – they’re our neighbours, friends, and fellow co-op members. These skilled professionals respond to outages in the toughest conditions, travel long distances, and maintain the infrastructure that keeps rural Alberta running.
Powerline work is demanding and dangerous. It takes technical skill, an unwavering commitment to safety, resilience, and heart. Many of our lineworkers have served their communities for decades, some across generations.
In honour of this day, we’re sharing some impactful stories submitted by you, our EQUS members!
Honouring the Heart of EQUS | National Lineworker Appreciation Day

“We would like to thank you very much for your Speedy, Efficient and Professional Service. Our transformer was blown after being struck by lightning on Monday May 26, 2025.
Dan Sunstrum arrived shortly after to assess the situation. After he determined the transformer was damaged, Patrick McIntyre arrived shortly with a new transformer. What we anticipated to be long, drawn-out repair turned into a quick restoration of our power.
We want to commend EQUS for a First-Class Operation that provides Rural Alberta with a VERY essential Service.”

“I would like to thank the staff at EQUS and the lineman that reconnected the power line at my farm for the courteous and pleasant interaction. Thank you!”
– John Gibbons

“I’d love to give Jeff and his crew today working on a pole at my friends house an awesome shout out. They have made a 3 year old’s day showing him all the things and giving him a work shirt and the glass top off the old pole.
Absolutely awesome job from your crew of amazing workers.”
