EQUS, in partnership with Red Deer County, is proud to announce the introduction of the new FLO Ultra EV charger along Queen Elizabeth Highway 2. Located at Red Deer County’s Junction 42 Business Park, just south of Red Deer near Penhold, this installation is set to transform the electric vehicle (EV) landscape in Central Alberta by providing fast, reliable, and accessible charging for long-distance travelers. The project has come to life in 2025 thanks to grant funding from Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) and Red Deer County.

The new FLO Ultra charger is the fastest EV charger along Highway 2 in the Central Alberta region, capable of delivering up to 320 kW of total charging power. As demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, this initiative marks an important step forward in the region’s transition to sustainable energy solutions. The Junction 42 Truck Stop location serves as a key pit stop for travelers along the major transportation route between Edmonton and Calgary, making it a strategic addition to the EV charging network.

“We are proud to continue leading the charge in sustainable energy solutions in Alberta,” said Lauren Garvey, CEO of EQUS. “This partnership with Red Deer County and the support from NRCAN allows us to enhance the EV infrastructure in Central Alberta, offering fast and reliable charging options for the growing number of electric vehicle owners in the region.”

The FLO Ultra charging station at Junction 42 is designed to accommodate a wide range of EV models, including truck and trailer access, allowing users to enjoy a seamless, fast-charging experience while on the road. By offering a convenient and accessible charging location, the initiative helps bridge the gap for long-distance EV travelers between Edmonton and Calgary, making sustainable driving a viable option for more Albertans.

“Red Deer County’s Junction 42 Business Park is opening doors for economic growth, boosting tourism, and positioning our region as leaders in clean energy,” said Jim Wood, Red Deer County Mayor. “Access to fast and reliable charging infrastructure in central Alberta ensures that we are taking care of all travelling Albertans along the QEII”.

This launch is an important part of EQUS’ broader strategy to invest in and support the province’s sustainable energy evolution, helping to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles.

“We’re not just installing chargers — we’re building a network drivers can rely on,” said Matt Watkiss, Territory Sales Manager at FLO. “We’re proud to partner with EQUS and Red Deer County to bring this critical infrastructure to Alberta’s busiest corridor.”

The FLO Ultra DC fast charger is built to deliver a high-performance, reliable and user-friendly experience for both drivers and site hosts. It can charge two EVs at once with a combined output of up to 320 kW. Charging sessions can be initiated and paid for via the FLO app—available on iOS and Android—which also helps users locate thousands of stations across North America and check real-time charger availability for added convenience.

As of March 11, 2025, all EQUS EV Chargers are available for a fee to ensure sustainability and continued service improvements for users.
