Through their contributions to Operation Round Up, EQUS members were able to help the Boys and Girls Club of Red Deer and District purchase a trailer that will be used to transport equipment and supplies for campers and pop-up programs taking place in 11 central Alberta communities.
The club provides free community programs and activities to approximately 2,200 area youth, 76 per cent of whom come from economically disadvantaged families. They applied to Operation Round Up for funding to purchase a trailer that could be used to transport the necessary equipment and supplies to run these programs, with the intention of funding the remaining cost of the trailer from their own fundraising.
With EQUS members committing the first $5,000 to the project through Operation Round Up, the club was able to leverage that funding and secured matching contributions from two other Red Deer area businesses, which covered the entire cost of the trailer, leaving the club’s fundraised funds available for their programs.
Having their own trailer means the club will no longer need to pay to rent trailers, reducing operating costs long-term and eliminating a barrier to delivering programming in rural communities.
Thank you, to the 97 per cent of EQUS members who participate in Operation Round Up by rounding their bills up each month. It may be small change individually, but together it makes a difference, providing funding that supports rural youth and seniors.Â
