On June 25, 2026, EQUS was proud to host a federal funding announcement at our Central Office in Innisfail, Alberta. The event brought together government officials, industry partners, and community members to celebrate a significant investment in Canada’s energy future.
Corey Hogan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced over $19.4 million in federal funding for 13 projects across Alberta. The investments, delivered through the Green Industrial Facilities and Manufacturing Program (GIFMP) and the Energy Innovation Program (EIP), are aimed at advancing clean energy innovation, improving grid reliability, and enhancing energy efficiency in Canada’s industrial sector.
EQUS CEO Lauren Garvey welcomed guests alongside Justin Riemer, Chief Executive Officer of Emissions Reduction Alberta.
Among the 13 funded projects is the EQUS Charge Club, an initiative exploring how electric vehicles can work with the grid rather than against it.
Through Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, EVs can detect when the grid is under stress and feed power back in, easing the load on affected lines. Research shows this approach can increase grid capacity by 20% to 50% without building new transmission infrastructure.
For our rural Alberta members, that means electricity that stays reliable, resilient, and affordable as demand continues to grow.
Hosting this announcement at our Innisfail office reflects the role EQUS plays not just in distributing electricity but in contributing to shaping the future of rural energy in Alberta. As Canada’s largest member-owned utility, we are committed to finding practical, forward-thinking solutions that benefit the communities we serve.
